The Narcotics/Vice Division was started in 2003. The two detectives that are assigned to the division have made numerous arrests. These arrests include drug violations, gambling violations and arrests for prostitution, as well as meth lab busts. These officers have worked closely with other local, state and federal agencies. The detectives have received extensive training on narcotic and related criminal activity. Drugs are a cancer on our society. Most all crime rates are effected at some level by drug use. Financial crime, family crime, violent crime and all other categories are effected by people who will do almost anything to support a drug habit. The overcrowding of North Carolina's prison system today is a direct result of many jurisdictions having to put great resources into fighting drug related crimes. It is the philosophy of the Rockingham Police Department to fight this problem at the source and get drug traffickers off the street. This is being accomplished by working closely with other jurisdictions in our area as well as the State and Federal Government. We cannot defeat our drug problem in our community without looking at how the drugs are getting here. The Rockingham Police Department will continue to aggressively seek out, arrest and prosecute those people responsible for drug trafficking in our community.
