The Rockingham Police Department is working with the Governor's Highway Safety Program in it's promotion for highway safety awareness, the goal being a reduction in the number of traffic crashes in North Carolina.

The No Need 2 Speed campaign was conducted March 31 through April 6, which resulted in 11,241 citations issued for speeding and a total of 31,928 traffic and criminal citations issued statewide. During this campaign, addtional enforcement and patrols were conducted to encourage drivers to slow down and follow posted speed limits.

The Rockingham Police Department's ACE Team worked in conjunction with the NC Highway Patrol, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office and the Hamlet Police Department during this campaign, resulting in a total of 204 traffic and criminal violations.
St. Patrick's Day "Booze It & Loose It" campaign was conducted March 14-17,2008 with 25 checkpoints and a total of 302 violations, including 21 DWI charges for Richmond County.
