Counterfeit Monies
NOTICE OF COUNTERFEIT MONIES BEING PASSED IN AREA - UPDATE 05/25/2017
COUNTERFEIT $5 BILLS & $10 BILLS ARE BEING PASSED AT DRIVE THROUGHS-RPD URGES LOCAL BUSINESSES TO INFORM THEIR CLERKS/CASHIERS
Recently the Rockingham Police Department has received numerous reports of counterfeit bills being passed at local businesses. Shown above are actual counterfeit $100 bills that were taken at area businesses. Please note the markings on the bills that state, "For Motion Picture Use Only" on front and back of the bills. The paper quality on these counterfeit bills was poor and obvious fakes. The suspects seem to target area stores and drive thru windows at night. We have also had reports of other denominations including $5 bills, $10 bills as well as $20 bills. Please advise your employees not to rely solely on the marking pens to determine if a bill is legitimate as some counterfeits are copied onto bleached smaller actual currency.
If you receive a counterfeit bill, or have questions about the accuracy of a bill, please contact the Rockingham Police Department, as well as recall any pertinet information about the suspect(s), such as the Make, Model and color of their vehicle with License tag. Please alert your employees to use all means to verify a bill before accepting it.

Anyone with information can contact the Rockingham Police Department at 910-895-2468.

Due to recent reports we have received, Investigators with the Rockingham Police Department want to warn residents of a loosely organized group of criminals who travel state to state in rental vehicles breaking into cars where they steal purses/wallets containing driver’s licenses, debit cards, credit cards and checkbooks. The groups will then use those stolen items, along with locals they find who look like the victims, to make purchases and cash checks. They tend to use the bank drive-thru lane farthest away from the tellers when cashing checks in an effort to hide their identity. These checks may be cashed in other cities and states, normally in large amounts. If your purse or wallet is stolen please report this immediately to your local authority.
With the holidays fast approaching we would like to warn everyone to remain vigilant and not to leave your purses and wallets in the vehicle when running errands and shopping. It only takes a moment for an experienced criminal to get inside a vehicle and steal your property.
